I hate discord, it's not a replacement for old school forums. Hopefully this one can live well, or the actual team can make something better.

Having information and modding get lost in a sea of discord messages is an awful solution. What do you guys think?

Discord has a use for small communities but am getting really sick of everyone using it as their primary platform for news, updates, important dev blogs, etc.

Thanks you a lot for your comment. Yeah as you also feel this need, we wanted to make a forum for many reasons, but the most was the ability to keep clear and easy tracks of what people do, projects and also keep this community out of any dramas and abusive moderation (heh). I dont know if the devs will eventually make a forum of their own, and i frankly dont care much. I will not use their for reasons, but as far i know zeblote and his weird ideas dont understand well the need of a forum.

When the game will be officially released, in 30 days now, i suppose the discord will be much more populated and active, and it will be even less easy to check people content. Discord had this issue of temporary links (they added that shit recently), so even if you would like to keep tracks of specifics posts, it is no more possible anymore. Seaching in discord is also great pain. This forum was made to keep this possible.

Lets hope many people will live and that everyone will find his little enjoyment in it!

You get it, I don't know much about the "discord drama" and really don't care enough to bother researching it but I am definitely just interested in getting a game that is good.

Zeblote told me he "doesn't play old games" so that was enough of a reason to not take his opinions on anything for more than a grain of salt lol.

I see the value in a discord server because it is a very popular platform and that "chat room" vibe makes it easy to quickly get in touch with someone, and get notified instantly when a server goes up, stuff like that. But forums are great for the reasons Dingo laid out -- keeping track of long term projects, and also as a database for content. That's one reason I am very happy about the "gallery" feature they are adding to the game, it would be such a pain to find prefabs and stuff through the discord server.

Ultimately I think both are good and they complement each other.

Discord is better for person-to-person, informal contact. Instant messaging, voice chat, memes. Day-to-day talking. I'm not sure how a skype clone turned into a closed-wall, non-accessible replacement for the world wide web. But yeah, it did. And it sucks because you can't find valuable information on search engines. Forums are way better for long-form and serious discussion. You can derail a discord discussion super easily by spamming. Just take a look at #Brickadia.

Charles Yes even his own team often has issues trying to convince him to add this or that idea. he usually say its not "the way things are done", then come back some weeks or in some cases months after to finally add it. heh
